Product Review: Van’s Blueberry Waffles
I want to start this post off by saying how cool I think it is that people who are on a gluten free diet can enjoy the same convenient foods as people who are not. Case in point, frozen waffles. They are tasty, easy to make and , thanks to Van’s, gluten free :)
To be honest, I never really bought frozen waffles regularly before going gluten free. They were a bit too expensive for my tastes. D.D. has always loved them, though, and I would buy them occasionally as a treat for her. You should have seen how excited she was when she saw the gluten free waffles from Van’s in the store’s freezer case. We had to try them, of course.
I like my waffles the way they were intended to be- crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. My girl prefers her waffles soft all the way through. With Van’s, we both got what we wanted. I toasted mine, she microwaved hers. Mine came out perfectly crispy on the outside with a fantastic texture. Hers were very soft... too soft for me to try :)
The blueberry flavor in these gluten free frozen waffles was just the right amount. It wasn’t too sweet and it didn’t taste artificial. I’m pretty sure that the flavor was created by the fruit juice added to the waffles, not the little blue bits that were supposed to be the blueberries. Either way, the waffles looked and tasted very good.
Van’s blueberry waffles were sweet enough to eat without syrup, which I like. They would be perfect to top with some fresh fruit and whipped cream. It would be an easy way to create a quick but decadent breakfast (or lunch, or dinner...)
The big problem I had with these waffles was the fact that there are only six in a box. Not only that, but those six waffles are very thin. If I turn her loose, D.D. could finish the box in one sitting. $3.69 a box to too much to pay for the quantity inside when they go that fast.
On the other hand, we all know I love to keep things on hand for super busy times. I definitely recommend adding Van’s gluten free blueberry waffles to that list.
