Product Review: Gluten Free Pantry Decadent Chocolate Cake Mix

Posted by: Marissa on March 17, 2011

Last week I told you all about my daughter’s birthday party and how it always gives me a chance to review new gluten free cake mixes. Consider today part two of the saga wherein I get to tell you all about the second mix we chose for this year’s extravaganza.

Gluten Free Pantry Decadent Chocolate Cake Mix was an easy choice for the chocolate side of the cupcake feast due to the fact that I happened to have the mix in my cabinet already. (Convenient, no?)

I mentally prepared myself to rip the mix to shreds, mainly because it’s a bit braggy to use a word like decadent in the product title. Well, I am always happy to admit when I am wrong - and boy was I wrong to call this title braggy.

The cake was not only decadent, it was also luscious, rich, soft and irrisistably delicious. It was not as dense as most gluten free chocolate cake mixes are. In fact, it was downright fluffy.

The mix called for 1 cup of buttermilk or low-fat yogurt. We used vanilla yogurt since that is what we had on hand. I cannot recommend this enough. I really don’t know if it impacted the end result a whole lot, but it was an experience worth repeating.

We used one box and it yielded 22 cupcakes. The cupcakes were good enough to be eaten without frosting and even tastier with frosting.

It is with no hesitation that I can tell you I have found a new favorite when it comes to gluten free chocolate cake. This is one you should definitely try.
