The Silpat

Silpat

In my kitchen I have a very special piece of equipment that I love to use often. It's called a Silpat.

A Silpat is a silicon liner that prevents your baked goods from sticking to the baking sheet. You'll NEVER have a problem with sticking again and it keeps your food moist, too.

I have found a ton of different ways to use my Silpat, but mostly I use it when I bake cookies. I also use it as a liner for baking several different kinds of foods including biscuits, rools and almost anything I cook on a baking sheet.

I use it for baking cookies, gluten free bread, biscuits and candy. The Silpat also bakes evenly. Whatever I chose to cook on my Silpat always turns out with an even, but not over-cooked color. The finished product always has the presentation that I look for.

I also use the Silpat for rolling out pastry. If you have made a gluten free pie crust before, you know that they can be a little fragile. What I love about using the Silpat is that when I get the pie pastry to the size I want all I have to do is place the pie dish carefully upside down on the pastry that I have rolled out on the Silpat. Then I put my hand under the Silpat and flip it over. I then pull the Silpat away very slowly from the pastry. The pie crust is now in the pie dish without any trouble. Then I shape the crust around the pie pan the way I want it to look. This works really great for gluten free pastry. This item will be your best friend in the kitchen. While it isn't super-cheap, the $20 I spent on it at my local grocery store was WELL worth the investment.

If you do end up getting a Silpat, I would love to hear feedback on what you think of it and how you used it. I can always use some great new ideas.

LOVE this thing! I used it to make glutenfreemontana's Chocolate Chip Cookies recipe last night and it was much better than the stoneware baking sheet I usually use.
