Chewy Apple Candies
A lot like the nutty fruit candies that you find on the market during the holidays, only better because they are homemade!

Super easy to make, great for serving at any get together this holiday season. Also great for gifts! Even if nuts are a problem, no worries, you can leave them out.

Ingredients
1 1/4 cup applesauce, divided
2 Tablespoons unflavored gelatin
2 cups sugar
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 cup coarsely chopped nuts, optional
1/2 cup maple syrup
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
In a large bowl, combine 1/2 cup of applesauce and gelatin; set aside to soften. In a 2 quart sauce pan, bring sugar and remaining applesauce to a boil. Add the gelatin mixture; return to a boil. Boil for 15 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla, maple syrup and nuts. Pour into a buttered 8-inch square pan. Cover and chill overnight. Cut into 1-1/2-inch x 1/2-inch pieces. Roll in powdered sugar. Refrigerate for several hours. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. Makes about 7 dozen.
