Last night I was trying to figure out what I was going to make with our dinner as a side dish. I had all the ingredients to make Au Gratin Potatoes. These are very good. The family loved them. They are great leftovers too.
| Prep time | 30 to 40 minutes |
| Cooking time | 1 hour and 10 min |
| Servings | 6 servings |
Ingredients
4 very large potatoes
1/2 an onion sliced thin
1 tsp herbs de provence
6 tbs butter
1/4 plus 1 tbs of flour
3/4 tsp salt
3 cups milk
2 1/2 cups grated cheddar blend cheese
Instructions
Preheat oven to 400
Spray prepared 9×13 pan
slice your potatoes very thin
slice onions
Place a layer of potatoes in your prepared pan
Then place the sliced onions next on top of the potatoes
On top of the onions add a pinch of salt, pepper, and the herbs de provence
Layer the rest of the potatoes on the onions. set aside
In a skillet add the butter to melt
Add the flour and salt to the melted butter. It will be thick. keep stirring for 1 min.
Then add in the milk slowing as you whisk in the milk
When it is smooth add the cheese and take off the heat
Stir until well blended and the cheese it melted
Pour over the potatoes
Cover with foil and Bake for 1 hour. Ovens vary so check your potatoes after 45 min to see if they are soft
The potatoes should cool for 10 min before serving. During this time the sauce will thicken as it cools
