Amazing flavor with a bit of heat...but not too much.

Quite tasty and easy to make. If you like a bit of heat in your barbecue sauce, this is perfect for you. It's not too hot though, my kids still love it.

Ingredients
1 tablespoon olive oil
1/2 medium onion, finely chopped
2 teaspoons minced garlic
1 tablespoon mustard powder
1 teaspoon red pepper flakes, or to taste
1/4 cup brown sugar
2 cups ketchup
1/3 cup Worcestershire sauce
1/3 cup cider vinegar
1 tablespoon molasses
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
Instructions
In a sauce pan, heat oil over medium heat. Add onion and garlic, cook until translucent, stirring occasionally, about 5 minutes. Stir in mustard powder and red pepper flakes. Cook 30 seconds. Reduce heat to medium low and stir in remaining ingredients. Cook, stirring occasionally until thickened, 5-10 minutes. Cool completely before storing in a container in the refrigerator. Will keep for up to a month, if it lasts that long. :-)
For a hotter sauce, increase the red pepper flakes and black pepper. Be careful, the longer the sauce cooks, the spicier it tends to get. Keep tasting before you add more.
